hi Im looking forward to using AMAI as a tool for some A.I research in wc3. my question is if AMAI breaks WC3 user agreement license in anyway?? Im intending to use Amai for offline research only and on one cpu. Im refering to this part mainly Quote:
Since its official academic research I need to make sure Im not breaching the license. thanks in advance for any info. ps: I sent an email out to one of the contacts, but wrote this just incase the email was blocked or something. |

Can't understnd what part of that it would be breaking really AMAI is a standalone AI it doesn't modify or rip anything from the game. |

If anything could be possibly breaking it, it would be more the grimoire tool used in the simple editions but that is really unrelated to AMAI. |

an example of something that can break the license: theres some utilities that modify dll files to add new jass natives or optimize stuff. after reading the grimoire readme it does seem to modify a lot of things, I will just avoid using it atm. is there anything else I should know about? like I dont have the src for the exe files so cant tell if they are running anything that modifies wacraft 3 existing files, when you run them. thanks in advance. ps: after going through most of the code I applaud you for putting so much of your time into this tool. |

one more question. Is it possible to make sure the a.i doesnt cheat(see whole map) at all, without misleading it ?? (It seems the uncertainty slider just misleads it). This could possibly be a simple jass modification, but I rather see if its possible through AMAI aswell. thanks in advance. |

that would be cool ... because like when u put a expo in a tricky place.. or what WOULD be a tricky place for a human the ai can find it lol oh well i still like AMAI the early game is very weak but when they get a big enough army the fights get crazy i love it lol |

Now you must understand something, the AI is the game, its not a human being it doesn't see at all, it doesn't even have eyes. Ofc the AI must be aware of the map(or well it cant be aware either its just an AI). But it simply cant be compared in any single way to a human player. The AI is in the game and it uses different conditions an variables to take actions. The AI is blind(making it very hard to check for different conditions) the only things controling the actions of the AI is almost only the knowledge of what the opponent does. What the AI sees is a network of paths you could say lines all over the map like train rail guiding it between all vital places like creep camps, start positions and expansions, this network is build by the pathing algoritm in AMAI during the first few seconds of the game when it scans the entire map. AMAI is made to cheat less than blizzards original AI it wont always abuse the knowledge of enemy expanding like blizzards AI that always attack expansions at once. Think AMAI have a setting for the different profiles on how big the chance is that it would attack expansion at once(letting Blizzard original AI choose target). |

okay thanks for the info. Only asked since theres a few RTS games (some were just research projects) whereby the a.i actually has some multi-mapping algorithm (splits the map into zones that are in its line of sight) to determine how it sees and then theres a few more algorithms that determine what to do based on whats happening in each of the areas split by the mapping algorithm. anyway I guess blizzard just wanted the most effecient (the above algorithms wouldnt work to well in 2003-2004) and easy way, aka letting the cpu see all :). |

well ye think its the play style to its no real RTS its just too much RPG elements in it for that to matter anyway just one army with a hero running around all together so its really not doing stuff on many different places at the same time anyway. |

which RTS has the BEST AI ever?? or does anyone know? |

Have been pretty impressed by some ones, in later games, C&C 3 AI can actualy walk around your base and find ways in where your defence is weakest however yes the AI is cheating(maphack) so to say like most AI but this is first AI I see that are able to abuse it to this degree, It makes it a very hard oponent but a very unrealistic opponent(boring). Many other games that came shortly after war3 had fine AI, like WH40K: Dawn of War and Rise of Nations. Sadly still I havent found any RTS with a AI that is really challenging when its not cheating. Hope it will be possible to create in Starcraft 2. |
