I had a same experience. I had tried to find the cause by myself and asked many computer Gurus about this happening. After many tests, it had been verified that old version IE(Internet Explorer) caused this problem. InstallShield program, which has the critical BUG, had been used to make my W3M Map Utilities. Many programs based on InstallShiled have same symptoms. I used the InstallShield program due to its useful supplemental fuctions, though Visual Studio Package is more stable making distributable programs. First of all, everything will be normal when you reinstall Windows program by Restore Mode. Wishing your data would be saved... |

Im not exactly sure what your saying in this, but maybe you could make it to were your program auto checks for updates, but doesnt install them. That way you can just go and dl them and wouldnt have to dl it if you didnt want to. Im not sure if you wanted a reply or not. And if your having problems with auto dl and install, i would look around microsoft and see if theres anything there that could help you. They have a auto dl system too, so they would probably have something for you to read there. Edit: Oops, im dumb. I just noticed that it says for liquid ninja to read this. I thought it was talking about Liquid ninjas. Im so stupid. |

We seem to be having the same problem. Would it be too much to ask to have a warning posted about this in the download section or in the readme for the download. We used win98 and suspect that it will happen to any win98 users. Fortunately it didnt happen on the comp we used to save our maps. Unfortunatly the comp we did use it on is now non functional. Its a $2000 laptop that we like to have the use of. We only have win98 and it wont let us reinstall it because it says win98 is already on the comp. We cant uninstall win98 because we dont have access to win explorer. The dos files used to uninstall it seem to be missing for some resion. Booting in safe mode didnt help. the recovery cd dont work because the cd has decided it dont want to access it. Can someone explain exacly how we can recover our comp from this short of formatting the HD? We dont blame the makers of the software because it is third party indepenant stuff made for non profit. However since this is obviously a known and somewhat common problem someone should have have done something about it. As it stands we are reluctant to download and install any of the other utilities ppl have made and we would advise anybody elce running win98 not to do so either. Although we arent as vocal about how we feel about this as Liquid Ninja, suffice to say we arnt very %$#@ing happy. |

Hmmm, this is not good that there has been multiple problems. with this. Well Hivemind, if you have someone that has Win2000, or XP install that in the same partition and don't convert the partiction to the NTFS file system leave it at Fat32. If you then want to go back to 98, you will need to hook the Laptop up to a netowrk and copy the files or burn them. Then reformat and reinstall 98 you can then add back all your files. Or just XP it is supposed to be real good for Laptops. Although I wouldn't have the money to buy it if this happened to me so if you don't borrow it from a friend just real quick and do what I suggested above. Another thing to try is I know that some laptop hardrives can be plugged into a PC, so try that. Then copy your file over, put it back into your laptop. reformat and install then add the files back on. It seems your a are Software savy enough so you might want to try the above first. If you haven't messed much with the insides of a comp I would not suggest doing the second choice. I will talk to Skull about getting a warning up for that. Because it appears there is a big issue with non 32 bit Operating Systems. i.e. ME, 98, 95. This would be my guess. I don't know who made the software but I will try and talk to them as well. Sorry DKSlayer |

Win95, 98 and ME are 32-bit operating systems. If you mean something else, then please point it out. |

My bad, I didn't mean that. I meant that windows 95, 98, ME are not TRue OS's. They still use MS-DOS as there base. They are more of an Advanced GUI for DOS. On the Other hand Windows NT, 2000, and XP are all true Operating Systems and in that sense they are a Disk Operating System, but not MS-DOS. Yes you are right they are 32-bit. DKSlayer |

We installed XP home and left it at fat 32. No data was lost as far as we can tell. Webpages download a little faster now. So its not all bad. We apreaciate you guys doing somthing to warn ppl about this. It was a most unplesant suprise. |
