Races: The Battle of Draenor!
~80% finished / Team: My friend and I. / Beta: No public beta yet. / Release: Soon. Background Information: A few years back, 200- 4, 5, 6, I tried making my own, whole new "race." My skill as a mapmaker wasn't very good, but I tried doing it anyways. Of course, this new race wasn't very good. I quickly scrapped it. But, it did inspire two of my friends. One of them just got bored before he even started though, but my other friend thought we should try making a LotR race. We tried making a race for the evil side, but of course, I decided we should scrap it as well. Recently (early 2007 I think), we decided to try and make a map for new races AGAIN. This time though, things turned out differently. Background Story: The Slayers is a group of human extremists, intent on the destruction of all things evil. They were inspired by the dragons, and their part in many, older wars. They were originally pacifists, simply worshipping dragons, and the types of dragons were Gold (yellow), Azure (blue), Blood (red), Death (black), and Earth (green). At one point in the groups existence, they were attacked as they carried out their daily routines (mostly worshipping and praying) by demons and undead. Much of the group was destroyed, but the survivors turned the assault back. This tragic event radicalized the group, which was later named "Slayers." As the leaders of the attack were demons, they carry a deep hate for them. They travelled to the demon-controlled planet known as Draenor to commence a great purge. At this point, the planet was the battleground of several forces already. A host of human forces exist here, along with a coalition of several demonic races. Orcs, the Draeni, Undead, and even the Night Elves were fighting for dominance of this planet. An army of a rightly feared military organization; the Elitist Order (Also known as the scrapped 1337 race...), had the most control. Their army was vast in number, and every soldier was trained to a point of at which every attack was fast and potentially lethal (Demi-Critical Strike). Their technology was advanced, and a massive, mobile HQ was armed with long range siege weapons, floating high above the ground. In a single, decisive ambush, the Slayers were able to overthrow the Elitist Order army, and gain much control themselves through the use of Doom Machines. The first Doom Machine was a large tank, and only 2 were able to be active at once because of maintenance and cost. The second, was a large and intelligent animated suit of armour of immense proportions which quickly became rogue; destroying over half the Elitist Order army and many Slayers too after it self-destructed. The third Doom Machine was created based upon the Number 2 design, but in caution, only allows one active upon the field at one time. Summary: ArchUgh's race was simply a coalition between demonic races, that was polished up. My race at first, was called the "1337" race (a parody of l33t, a later to be known as the Elitist Order). My race had fast attacks and all attacking units had a small chance to do a small critical strike. It was alright... until I realized: that was a horribly stupid idea. I scrapped my 1337 race and within a month or two, came up with a new one: the Slayers. My race is almost finished now, and all I can say is that its got pretty original ideas in there, and some things inspired by others. Features: The map is on the Outland terrain, and the map itself was made by my friend (meaning it was original). It's intended for 2v2 or FFA. The terrain isn't perfect yet, but we might leave it as what it is. The players are located in the 4 corners of the square map. Powerful items reside within the hold of Faceless demons to the east and west. Every base has two gold mines placed north/south and to the east/west. In the middle, health and mana wells await. Nearby in the middle is a Goblin laboratory thing. Slayers Race: Features of the Slayers race include: the ability to create Gold Dragon Nests to worship for gold (only two are allowed, for the evil forces might try to take control of the gold source). No need for actual "mining." No need for lumber. The availability of a numerous amount of soldiers from the sub-division of the Slayers known as the War Followers, which can be extensively upgraded. The ability to create up to 5 "Ambush-in-a-Box's," (the max limit made because if there were more, the ability to be permanently invisible would be lost). A tower that can be upgraded twice. The ability to create 2 Doom Machine Number 1's. The ability to create 1 Doom Machine Number 3. The Number 3's ability to absorb corpses to add to its own bulk. Good excuses for things. And much more! Team: * ArchUgh * Hydrolisk Idea for new races: Hydrolisk Created by: ArchUgh Terrain by: ArchUgh Demons by: ArchUgh Slayers by: Hydrolisk Triggers by: Hydrolisk Progress: ~80% overall. Terrain: 90% or FIN. Demon race: 90%. Slayers Race: 85%. Other features: 75%. More information will be given at a later time. Information about the races will start coming in soon. Also, take note that the project's progress is going slowly, so be patient for it to become released to the public. |

Whats wrong with 2on2 multiplayer ladder-style gameplay? -_- |

Nothing, it's just usually, I'm not trying to jump to conclusions.... It's usually the fact that the less players you can accommodate, the more epic of the terrian and sound you need to compensate for the lack of player interactions. Perhaps even smarter AI... |

Life isn't perfect, and this map ain't either. My friend and I won't just let it flop though. We need a little polishing (maybe help from a trigger pro to root out leaks and such), and then it should be ok for now. I'm going to try and find out how the Creep Rebellion conversion made an install file to put on your maps... that is really cool. |

Less players ==> better for hosting, also much better interaction in smaller groups (which, lets face it, most people host with). |

Triggers won't polish a map. Even if it has all the most solidified and excellent triggers, if it doesn't look good, no good enemy AI and most of all the feel of the game, then it doesn't turn people on that much and replay value is low. |

hey hydro, I designed what, In my opinion, was an interesting race. The techtree and even the scripting is done for the abilities. Would you be interested in doing a crossover just for fun? Anyways, I'm more interested in what makes these races unique, or how they are designed. Are these made to play like standard wc3 races? |

Personally, I think my friend's race is pretty stacked >_> It's just a whole bunch of demon neutral creeps that have been made to better fit a melee game. As for my race, they're supposed to be a balanced but very unique race. Story: The Slayers is a group of human extremists, intent on the destruction of all things evil. They were inspired by the dragons, and their part in many, older wars. I'll add the above to the main project post soon. |
