I wanna start doing stuff like making maps and stuff - Has anyone got any suggestions on where to start? |

Yes: Start by messing around. Open all the parts of the editor. Lay some terrain. Edit some units. Browse the trigger editor. Once you've tried it out, you'll have some questions. Come on the forum and search with the search function for threads that address those questions. Continue this process until you've got a decent grasp of what the various parts of the editor are for, and then decide what map you want to try to create. Start from scratch and get working. |

Use the terrain and doodad palettes to lay down some 1337 terrain, then use the unit palette and throw some units in there. Then, go to the object editor and the "Units" tab and modify some units to have huge attack damage or a really big model. Mess around in unit editor. Then, start into the triggers window and make some simple triggers that move your units around or something. Don't make your ideas too big or complex. Start small. Then after you make some awesome maps come back and look for JASS tutorials, but you'll likely have to search other forums too. |

Also remember to look at tutorials, they can be very useful. Always, when starting something, make sure you know what you can do and what you can't (as FLUFF said, start small). |

Seriously, though, I suggest you start by making sure you understand that anything you may wish to do will most likely take months. Many newbies make the mistake of assuming that they can have a map done by the end of the week; they end up being frustrated when they realise they are not able to produce any decent results in that time. |

LEARN JASS ASAP or dont bother because starcraft 2 is coming out soon and that will destroy wc3, just wait for starcraft |

#1: learn english, or find a good spell checking program. #2: JASS is not needed, but it does make things easyer and more flexible in the end. (JASS is otherwise known as Custom Script, it is WC3's scripting language. the trigger editor's GUI is a method of writing JASS code) #3: How the FUCK does the Widgetizer make a map easyer to edit? |

#1: This is an english forum... GTFO with that, please. #2: How the hell does switching the format object data is stored in make a map easyer to edit? at most, it lets you edit hidden values and quickly edit SLK files in excel. But even there, you would need MPQ injection to make them work properly with the world editor. It does not make it easyer for most purposes. Also SLK files can only hold abilitys with 4 levels. #3: Know what you talk about before you speak. And have a decent understanding of what you're talking about before you attempt to debate it. |
