Changing Tileset

10-04-2007, 06:53 AM#1
PsykieKILLA
Ok, I have a map, but I want to change its tileset without having to re-make the map... How may I do this or is it even possible.

Thank you, PsykieKILLA

Yes, it is possible.
First you need the NewGen pack here: http://www.wc3campaigns.net/showthread.php?t=90999
Then when you run the NewGen WorldEditor new menus appear in the menu bar at the top.
First open your map, then select Extensions/Edit Tileset
In the first popup enter the letter of the tileset that your map should now have (the letter that is already in the input box represents your current tileset).

Zoom (requires log in)
Ok.

In the next popup you need to enter the list of tiles you want to use. The max nr of tiles is 16. What's already in the input box is your current tile list, replace it with the tiles that you want. And make sure to replace all cliff tiles that you had with the clifftiles of the other tileset.

Zoom (requires log in)
Ok.

Then close and reopen the map so that the editor reloads everything.

Oh I also found a list of all the ids etc, thanks to Zepir:

The character after GroupId= tells you what letter to use for each tileset.
The Ids after Tile= can be used in the tile list.
The lines that start with Cliff= only tell you which of the above tiles is a cliff tile. Eg Cliff=CLgr,Lordaeron Summer Grass Cliff,Lgrs tells you that Lgrs (Lords Grass) is a cliff tile. Not CLgr is the id that has to be used, but Lgrs is!

Or... you can go to Advanced - Modify Tileset. A bit easier I think? :)

That allows you to swap tiles.
Not to change the tileset that your map is based on (for example to exchange the cliffs that it uses).
And you have the added bonus that you can use up to 16 tiles.

Actually, Pitzer, you CAN change the base tileset that way.

Oh, pretty cool. I didn't know it.
Then of course that's easier. :)

Advanced/Tileset will work.

But... You need to make a copy of your map and tinker with the advanced set you use. Sometimes if you change the set groups of tiles will default to one tile from the new set.

Cliffs are not "switchable" meaning the first cliff will be replaced with the first cliff. You might have to use Replace Cliff option to switch cliff types.

Say you used Ashenvale Rock and Dalarian Ruins White (gray) marble - and you try to replace with Two other types of rocks - what can (and often does) happen is that the act of replacing converts both rocks to just one new tile.

Tinkering means you need to select as many tiles as you already have and have them lined left to right in a was that like tiles (grass, dirt, rock) will replace the existing kind (grass, dirt, rock). It can take several attempts to do so - so on your copy fiddle with the tile sets and get the closest you can then do it in your original map.
