Hello everybody! I am currently working on a Risk-type map based in Europe. (one more...) Now I tried to rebuild the coastal areas of Europe. Do you think this is okay for a map or should I rework some parts or perhaps even everything? (The Mapsize is the biggest possible. (Epic 256x256 i think)) |

How can you count Sweden, Norway and Finland out? ![]() Everything else is good expect Denmark, it's to big. |

Well I would say that you should work your hardest and not settle for anything less than what you believe is your best. Though it does look BARELY enough like Europe that if I joined this game I might not complain about the shape the whole time. Fix Greece up and smooth and the coasts. They're shaky. |

I would like to include them but the mediterranean sea seems more important to me. Perhaps I could try shrinkening the other stuff down but I fear that I am laking space later on. :\ And ok, Greece should really be reworked. *sigh* |

You do realize that there is a way to create a map larger than 256x256? WEU - World Editor Unlimited You can find it on this site. The tool allows the creation of maps up to 480x480. |

Hm, I thought WEU would be outdated. xD Yes, I stopped mapping 3 years ago... gnah... Am I able to stretch the map that far with the JASSnewGen-WE? |

It isn't the best tool, but it's efficient and has it's uses. I do not know. Haven't ever required that tool. |

Are you talking about NewGen WE or WEU? (I'm a bit confused atm... xD) Ok, perhaps this is thread jacking, but it's mine anyways... Questions for everybody: Have you ever played a Risk-type Map (f.ex. Europe Risk, Rise of China)? What do you missed while playing these, what did you dislike and have you some ideas for impovements? (Sure I would use nice ideas in my upcoming map...) |

I always found those types of maps lacking detail, such as lakes and geographical monuments, and in a few of the maps, they never pay any attention to the height. |

Someone suggested above that you can go beyond the default 256x256 map size. While this is possible it is prone to cause problems and be harder to load for low-end systems. Just something to keep in mind. |

Yeah it, in some cases, can cause an increase in lag and a much larger file size. The only maps I play are Europa, Rise of China, and Lords of Europe. My native forum is www.Wc3Diplo.org which a base for Rise of China and Europe and many other Diplo maps. including Azeroth wars and Dark ages of Warcraft. You should go there and advertise your map for that will be the community to play it. |

Yes, I thought about Loading, too. Perhaps I just try shrinkening it... And thanks for wc3diplo (already heard about it but hat not visited it yet) |

Is it possible that you have forgotten Northgermany´s Top? I think it´s longer but that could be a false of mine because in this minimap i can´t see it exactly. Nice till now ![]() |

about ur question, i always found that the units were too similar, they used shitty models if at all, the terrain sucked and the map was way to small, no room to build any thing. another problem is the unit's and building's size, you have to make them big enough to see in detail but not too big, buildings are constrained by that and pathing. the other problem is controlling your units. plus most of them have really shitty in game abilities that were seriously unbalanced. |

I disagree. In the nature of the games we are talking about, the smaller the better. These are diplomacy maps where the whole strategy relies on your ability to control vast amounts of units. The smaller you make your units and buildings then the more realistic it seems in terms of the actual size they would be seen on a map. I do agree with the part about the abilities. Typical diplomacy hero skills: -Shockwave -Devotion or Endurance Aura -Critical Strike -Star Fall (Ult) Unit skills also fall short of anything interesting.. |
