Okay, so I'm kind've wanting to make a northern forest style terrain, but I'm not quite sure what tileset, doodads, and whatnot would help accomplish that effect.

Any tricks as well would be appreciated.

Lordaeron winter is my advice, that tileset generally looks great. However, I'm not sure just what 'effect' you're after?

More of a mountainous northern climate with some forestry.

Some Lordaeron Winter with Northrend tileset would be best i think.

A tip when doing Lordaeron: Use all of the dirt tiles. You'll need lots of dirt in all the varieties. (I think theres 4: dirt, grassy dirt, dirty grass, and one other) I don't have WC3 on the computer right now. Anyway, you'll want to do a lot of tile variation because Lordaeron terrain is generally pretty flat and shouldn't be completely covered in grass (I know you are doing a mountain) and it lacks the dense doodad count of an Ashenvale forest to cover much of the tile.

So use a lot of tile variation, but don't go overboard and make is look like a huge mess. Also add subtle hills and valleys as Lordaeron tends to be flat. You'll most likely also want some custom trees to make it look good. These trees are nice if you decide to make it snowy but I didn't have any luck importing them to one of my own maps: http://wc3campaigns.net/showthread.php?t=83589

If you're going for a northern-mountainous terrain with no snow I suggest the Village Summer tileset. Import the rough dirt/grassy dirt from Ashenvale tileset and a couple other dirts and maybe one other grass tile. This will give you alot of flexibility and tile variation. Find some custom tree models, I'd go for something that looks like pine/fir as they tend to grow well in higher elevations.

Hey Im quite a new terrainer myself...

Anyways back to the point, are you trying to find good trees? Like what kind of forest image r u trying to create? gloomy kind of forest or like tropical 1?

for normal forests (RPG map) I use Lordaeon summer trees I think, hope that helped in ur decision...

All in all Id say go with Lordaeon summer set.... though thats coming from a beginners point of view, I think it looks best with what your trying to describe :)
