Yobgul's War3FileConverter should work. Please explain exactly what you've done that we can help you. |

Guest | I changed the warcraft directory's name so i could install it twice (1.00 & 1.04).then i extracted all the dll's,war3.exe, and warcraft.exe from version 1.0 and put them in a folder called war converter with the yobguls files (used the file converter war.exe).When i try to start the converter i get this error! |

I assume you use also WinXP. Some weeks ago someone else with WinXP had the same/a similiar problem with it. I know no solution for it yet, except you do something wrong. The DLLs and war3.exe must be from Warcraft III v1.0! |

Guest | they are |

Then it is very likely a compatibility issue with WinXP. Or is there anyone, who can work with it on WinXP? If so, then they should post here. I don't have too many experiences with WinXP, because I'm using WinME. |

I'm using XP and Yobgull's File Converter version 2.1 with game.dll version 1.0.1.4563 and it works fine. It gives me some weird error when i close it, but this is not important since this error only happens when you close the program. Try to use the dlls from the 1.01 version. If you feel lazy to reinstall the game, use my w3reseter to get back to 1.00 and the update it to 1.01 and grab those dlls then update it back to 1.04. |

You can do something else: Get a stand-alone version from the 1.01 patch. Create a new TXT file write into the first line "Patch_War3.mpq" (without the quotes). Then open the patch with WinMPQ. You'll not see much. Then go to Options -> File List -> Add File list and then select the new TXT file. Then extract the file "Patch_War3.mpq" and open it in WinMPQ with a list for war3.mpq (it comes with UMSWE, MPQView and you cn download it from my website). At the bottom of the list you'll find game.dll and some other files. To all those who are surprised about my knowledge about patches from Blizzard: I messed a bit around with WinMPQ and found accidentally some information that there is some file "Patch_War3.mpq". I don't know how I did this (maybe I extracted the unknown files and looked them up in the editor). I also found out how to create easily a list for all patches for Blizzard games except Warcraft III. In Warcraft III they use a new system, the old method does not work. |

I have to disagree with you Starcraftfreak. Almost 100% of files that come within the patches are not the "whole file". Blizzard uses some search-and-compare tool to generate the files for the patches. Game.dll within patch 1.01 is only 900K. Check the scheme bellow: FILE A (Game.dll 1.00) FILE B (Game.dll 1.01) Some tool (don't know wich one) compares file A and B and generates a file C with the diferences between A and B. This way file C is much smaller. BTW, I have some really good listfiles for W3, I'll send you today. |

OK, you are right, I've not checked that that holds also true for the DLLs and EXE files. I thought, that only the SLK and TXT files are fragmented, but now this is cleared. Anyway, maybe you get it how they work. I opened these fragment files in a HEX editor and recognized that they have some sort of header. Thanks for your information on lists. I thought I was the onyl one who got out that there is a "Patch_War3.mpq" file inside the patches, but obviously this is wrong. I'll try to put this on my website as fast as possible. About Bncache.dat: The information you provided is only true if you have played on Battle.net. A last question: Have you looked at my list for Starcraft reatail patches? Did you know how to get all the files from any non Warcraft III patch? If no, I'll tell you. |
