Hey there, not sure if this is the right place for this... but anyways i went to the tutorial section and went to the "War Craft III spell editting" thread (or something like that) anyways i have extracted the .slk and .txt file(s) and i have renamed then, changed icon... i think, changed descrip. I was editing Starfall (normal, not the more powerfull 1) and so i put the TechMPQ thing and the 2 files needed to run it, the 2 night elf .txt files (func.txt and abilities.txt) or whatever they are called, and the map i wanted the ability changes on all in 1 file then i ran techMPQ and it said i did it right i did it twice alternating the .txt files in the first and third bar. So i opened up world editor to see if it worked and i looked under hero abilited and there it was Fury of the Elves (for my LOTR map =)) and razor wind cuz i was gonna test with that and do my own to see if i did it right. So i assigned those 2 skills to 2 different heros (1 different 1 of each) and when i went into a game starfall was just plain old starfall and razor wind was just plain old immolation. I also moved the modified map file back into my WAR3 map directory and it still didnt work =( any help would be great on what im doing wrong wouldbe AWSOME ty That is what i posted last night and i still havnt figured it out, i tried resaving it again this time w/o going into world editor and the skills still werent modified... PLZ!!! HELP ME!!! =) |

This is a very common problem. I assume that you've saved the map in WE after viewing it to check out if the new stuff is there. The problem is that if you do that, WE rebuilds the map and the files you have implemented are gone. So you have to implement them after it again that they are inside the map. I'd use WinMPQ and create a script to do that all the time, but if you work well with TechMPQ, then keep doing so (it's your choice which MPQ editing program you use). |

I did do again several times again each time nto opening WE. Another question... what should i put on the lines, the first lines is NighElfAbility(func and strings)(cuz you do it twice) second line is map it should be in, should third line be what? and they HAVE to be in the same folder... right? |

What do you mean exactly? |

I did reload all the stuff with the 2 .txt files, techMPQ, the 2 files needed to run tehcMPQ and the map i wanted it in all in the same folder, then i loaded them up into techMPQ and said mpqit! it said it worked but maybe i didnt have right files in right spots? but when i said i did do it again i meant that i tried to MPQ all the stuff like 3 or 4 more times each time w/o opening WE and it was just starfall and immolation still. |

Well, maybe you've done something else wrong. Have you used the right paths? The files <race>abilty<func/string>.txt must be in the folder "Units" (inside the MPQ. So you have to write for "Packed Filename" "Units\NightelfAbilityFunc.txt" (and so on). If you already did so, then there is maybe another problem. If you don't find a solution try to use WinMPQ. |

In Winmpq... extract file: drag and drop it out add files: drag and drop in, type in path |

Guest | If I were you, for the three bars I'd try: File to add: Each one of the files you edited to create the custom spell, one at a time. MPQ Archive: your map file that you've created Packed filename: The exact name of the file you're adding, the way it was in the war3mpq file when you extracted it (i.e., if you were adding your AbilityData.slk file into the map, you'd type "units\AbilityData.slk" with no quotations, and the exact upper/lowercase usage, because that's how the file was packed into your original mpq file to begin with. for your nightelf txt files, I'd try units\NightElfAbilityFunc.txt and units\NightElfAbilityStrings.txt, because, again, that's how they were "packed" into the original mpq file you extracted them from. but that's just my idea. |

Would it be a problem for you to zip the files up, post them here and I (or someone else) tries to get it work and tells you, what he has done, OK? |
