"This forum requires that you wait 600 seconds between posts." Eeehmm...

Hi ho

I'm posting this to crush the 600-seconds posting system. :) It's just horrible, and 600 seconds is far too much. That's 10 minutes... TEN minutes... There are other ways to prevent spam, although I doubt this forum would be spammed even if there's no timer at all.

I hereby request to remove this. :) Put your hands up when agreed! :D

Thanks in advance,
Jitse :)

If the 10 minutes look like a lot, go for a walk, go get some food, go study or whatever, be grateful for those extra 10 minutes we are handling to you.

We were spammed heavily some time ago.

Perhaps you just need to wait, who knows? We might change the limit to something gentler next February 15th...

I had the same thing when I started here, it seems to go away after a while.

Really? You're not kidding? Sounds reasonable to me. :) Although a month is much.

Anyway, it seems this forum has quite some history I don't know of. :p Only reading the FAQ already gives a clue about that. I should dig into that. :D

Sounds incredibly stupid. Honestly, do you still have this enabled?

go for a walk,
Or perhaps, go to another site? New members should be a priority when it comes to conveniences, and to go against that is to go against growth, and thus mocking the point of registrations in the first place.

That's not a bad idea.

Why?

So, I will not have to worry about the users table getting too big?

So your saying you do not want people to use your site, or at least, new people?

I think he's saying something along the lines of that we should not reduce our standards to accomodate for new members, the members must grow to accept what was set forth by those the came long before them. Wc3c is not represented by it's weakest link, but by it's strongest. That is what sets wc3c apart from every other wc3 modding website.

By giving people convenience you lower your standards?

I would consider going to the extreme of 10 minute wait times in-between posts, which I doubt actually improves upon or solves anything, would be 'lowering your standards'.

Do you mean spamming as in by bots, or as in low-quality comments?

I just care more about my old users than new users that would leave a site just because of a 10 minute delay between posts. This gives my mods the advantage on a probable spam attack, it happened before and will happen again.

However, it prevents spam attacks from those who just register new accounts to post shock site links in every forum twenty times a minute. Yes, it has happened before. The only way to solve this is to force accounts to wait a month before allowing repeated postings.

See above.

Convenience is very relative. We all had to register at some point, and everyone that is now a strong member of the community went through the same thing. If someone new goes through the same thing, it's not like we're treating them unfairly -- They're being treated just like everyone else was at one point.

Furthermore, if you would leave the site (AKA go to another site) because you cannot post twenty times a minute, you probably wouldn't do very much good for the community in the first place. Additionally, we promote growth in the sense that we affirm self-improvement. We do not take kindly to giving useless comments like "UMG U ROX" and so forth, we foster the idea of giving honest critique of one's work. When I was a new member, I found that more of a convenience and a reason to stick with the community than anything else.
