Change useItem hotkey

Is it possible to change the hotkey for sing items in your inventory without using macros?

I'm not looking for abilities that use an item through triggers.

i think you can just by giving the abilities on the items a letter hotkey

nah. that didn't work. I was expecting it to be in the CommandStrings.txt but its not.
