Hey, I'm making a TD called Icecrown Camp Defence, and would appreciate some ideas for towers. Towers have 2 upgrades and 1 passive ability. There is no theme. Rep for good ideas |

A spawning tower? Makes little units you can't control? They just stay around the building. Maybe you could just use locust swarm to do it. |

how would that be good in a TD? |

It's original? If it acts like locust, it's functionallu similar to an AoE tower. |

I heard an idea once for towers that blow wind (push units towards a direction) you could do the same thing like an aoe slow down in one direction. Tower defensives never seem to be very creative because they can't be, a game of tower defense isn't about crazy spells but about mazing and in some the creeps you send against your enemy. You can't count elemental towers as creative because the towers you create aren't different enough to be interesting. In thinking that way, try making a map that emphasizes those fun things, so make mazing an interesting thing to do. For example my example tower is a nice addition to a maze as it helps to slow down creeps for others to attack them, maybe you can also put in towers that change where creeps walk, or act like a pulsating black hole that teleports all units toward it every 2 seconds. Maybe a tower that does more damage the more creeps are near it. How bout a tower that does more damage based on how many are connect to it of the same kind, so it can connect to 8 on all sides of it and with 8 it does full damage. How bout a tower that consumes corpses, thus the more units killed around it the more damage it does, but it could lose power each time it attacks. WAIT A better idea, in conjuction with interesting mazing towers how bout a tower that rotates to make new paths open and close for the creeps? |

Sounds like someone needs to play the soon to be released Element TD 4.0 Public Beta. PS: Not meaning to advertise, but I disagree with the quoted comment above. |

wenever i play Ele TD its always those who know the best combonations win, and every1 ends up with basicly super strong arrow/cannon style towers, but not realy all that many ability towers Salbrismind is completely right, although u could easily make an impenetrable maze lol, a couple of black hole towers near each other would make the creeps basicly sit in tlhe same spot =P a few of the good ideas that ive seen + liked are the tiles from Bk's Gem TD, ad from rain9441's Experience TD the hungry littl fellhound, maybe have a pet tower that spawns little pets on leashs to kill monsters, and also from Power Towers (cant remember author =[ ) the towers are heaps cool. But the main problem with TDs is that every one ends up with the same towers, i guess Ele TD trys to stop that with combonations, but i think that the best way to make a good td is with good levelable/upgrade able abilities, and many towers/ways to get towers, so every1 gest different stuff. |

I'll say it again, sounds like someone needs to try the soon to be released Element TD 4.0 Public Beta. I'm not going to hijack this thread and go through all the reasons why I say that. Rather, I will just say that 4.0 invalidates all the negative points brought up against TDs in this thread. I realize that this is an ambitious claim to make, but 4.0 is unique enough that I feel confident making it. |

Hm what about a tower which has this kind of "damage meter", and once it deals enough damage to fill it out it activates an AOE stun/slow or something. |

maybe like strike abilities in Diablo 2, how u hit 3 times, then u can unleash a mega attack, or towers that spawn monsters from corpses, or make wards or sumthin |

its been done and whats so interesting about that attack thing? It doesn't take skill or any intelligence to place the tower there. This is what tower defenses lack, same with elemental td, its just a bunch of cheap immitations of the same basic attacking tower. Oh and no you shouldn't hijack this thread, cuz ur map is the opposite of good tower def ideas. Wheres the mazing? |

You're entitled to your opinions. All I ask is that you try the aforementioned public beta (coming soon), and get back to me. |

Lol, its ok Karawasa, if people play it and like it then I'm sure they will change their opinion. I know a way to make a really crazy strategy TD, make all towers with the unit classification "worker" and then give them all the attack ground ability, and some how remove it during the rounds, so before the round starts they must chose where to attack ^^ That would require lots of strategy to win, and a good combination of ice, poisons and damage towers to win! (In a mazing TD of course!) |

Or actually if the guy can micro a lot he will select the tower and attack normally lol. As another idea, how about: When a tower attacks, it gets -reduced attack. However, once it reaches an X amount, it gets a bonus attack damage and starting from there it keep improving like that. Ex: 5 original damage, then 4, then 3, BOOM 7 damage, then 6, then 5, then 4, BOOM 9 damage, etc. Actually that is really really weird and might require lots of coding but whatever. |

Again another pointless tower that serves no strategic value just a "cool" ability with no thought required to use it... |
