Alright, I need someone to bring down the knowledge once and for all on this one. I've poked around the forums and on the editor itself, and I'm pretty sure I have a solid knowledge of the Targets Allowed field for attacks. But it seems it gets a little more complex with spells. I'm trying to make a spell that allows only units owned by that Player to be targeted, what fields should be checked, and why? Initially I based the spell off of Storm Bolt, but couldn't get the behavior I was looking for, so I switched to Invisibility, and then it worked; I took off a few fields I felt were unnecessary (Neutral, Air) and it went back to the same behavior as Storm Bolt. What flags are dependent upon the Friend and Enemy flags and what is the default behavior? |

Use Finger of Death. It can target anything. I'm no expert on how functional the targeting of invisibility is. Generally I use Air, Ground, Friend, Organic (if you don't want it to hit buildings). |

There's no set behavior for every spell. For instance, you can't make chain lightning target allies only and you can't make healing wave target enemies only, but you can make spirit link target anything you want to a pretty good degree of accuracy. Experimenting is the best method to get what you want, just try different base abilities and you'll eventually find what you want. |

thanks dusk. I'm really tempted to start a list of every ability and its target/hard coded behavior, but on the other hand, I'm extremely lazy. Haha, anyways, off to experiment! |

Okay, I'm bumping this thread because I cannot figure this thing out for the life of me. The goal: a single target channeling spell that can only target friends (A summoned companion to be exact) The main idea of the spell is to have a lifedrain that targets your pet, and transfers some of its large hp pool to the somewhat weaker caster (kind of like death pact, but over time). I've tried using life drain and siphon mana, but I can't get the Targets Allowed stuff to work. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Use Channel as a base (this will allow the targets and channeling properly) and then trigger the spell. That's the only way I can think of it. |

Channeling spells that target units are tricky, you only have 4 options. - Channel - Life Drain - Siphon Mana - Aerial Shackles The lattermost can target allies, but has the negative effect of disabling them too. Channel may be necessary in this regard. |

thanks pyro and dusk (again). Man, why does warcraft have to have so many exceptions, I hope SC2 they improve the editor as much as it did from SC->WC3. Anyways, channel it is! |

I'm hoping for a built in Model / .blp editor. Seriously, they better >:O |

Do you really want some second rate Paint style .blp editor? Blizzard aren't know for their artist's software... Maybe just blizzard endorsing skinning and modeling by having a built in viewer and a converter. |
