Model ph*cks up light environment

I've geomerged and vertex edited this model a bit with oinkerwinkle's gear.
It's a combination of the leaves from on of Nasrudin's ashenvale trees and the volutes from Acathla.

I haven't tested it in game, however, I intend only to use it to create screenshots for the terrain gallery, so It only needs to be effective in the editor. When placed in the editor, it for some reason removes the effects of the light environment (mine, for example, is set to felwood) and it clips off some of the leaves. There are no other visible errors.
I'm foreign to any form of modeling, just wanted to whip this up quick.
