The community project is an open-source map run and built by forum members. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Everything is appreciated- theorycrafting, ideas, constructive criticism, as well as solid contributions (triggers, spells, terrain, etc) The current state of the project is as follows: Minigame Map -template created -3 minigames produced so far -ideacrafting for more minigames |

I think first & foremost the genre needs to be decided, of which I'd recommend either: AoS or Mini Games. |

I would say AoS, because it allows for a large amount of individual input, and many different styles. |

Well, we need a twist on the AoS formula or this is just going to be plain old boring. |

Yeah, there are pros and cons to both AoSes and mini game maps. Minigame- once you've beaten the game to its extent, there's not really any incentive to go back and play it again. Extensive competition would be a good way to counter this- plus a couple other ideas I have. AoS- Let's face it. Everyone and their dog has created an AoS, most of which are half-assed or so generic it's lame. Most people try to overcome this by creating omg osm heroes, but honestly it takes more than that. We'd have to improve upon every aspect of the game to make it worth anything. I have ideas for this too. however, it also has to be simple enough that people can jump in and play. A good example of this is EotA, one of the best AoSes I've ever played, but 20 games later, you're still on the learning curve. Sounds like most people are wanting an AoS, but we'll put this to a vote and let it run a few days to make sure. We also need project directors. I'm just gonna go ahead and nominate myself, since I started this whole mess and keep pushing it, but I don't want to be the only one at the head of this. If a couple people could step forward and opt to be a director, that'd be awesome. edit: team survival anyone? Enfos is the only real precident in this genre. |

Definitely not minigames, but an AOS is kind of boring. Two teams, each player with a hero is good, but the objective needs to be something more than Kill X of Y. |

Two teams each controlling 1 hero. Shared unit control. Lulz. Quote:
There isn't that much you can do and still be an "AoS" |

But it would be better. ShadowWolf will have to be director... He started this up. This looks like its gonnabe a success as well -Av3n |

I voted minigames because the only other alternative is AOS =/. Aos has been done etc, and wouldn't work as well as a site project, rather a smaller dedicated team with a clear goal for an original map. I think the type of map needs to be one that will work well with many people working on it. The multiple map in same universe idea (can't remember whos) was quite interesting :D. Although I think an RPG could be quite cool. A coop rpg (multiplayer) but not ORPG, multiple levels different styles etc with cool challenges (ie. castle defenses etc) could work. |

Not AoS, but I'd rather have an AoS than minigames. |

Ok, so now people are saying they don't want an AoS. I have some ideas for some stuff that I will post later and see what you guys think. If you want something other than AoS or minigames, please suggest what you would like instead. I personally would vote no on an RPG, they usually become too out of proportion and epic and never get finished. Also, their linear nature limits how much a large group of people can work on it simultaneously. But if the majority wants RPG, we can do RPG. Could an admin add "Other" to the poll please? And reset the poll? I'm not sure why users can't edit polls... |

Hmm, yesh. This could certainly work. I have perhaps the time, and part of the motivation for this. But I don't want the responsibility, nor do I want people depending on me. Sorry, ShadowWolf. But, I would certainly second his self-nomination. I must say, it would be nice if the poll had more options, or an "Other" option. (You're right, it's strange that at least the creating user can't edit it...) However, I'd still vote AoS; I don't really know all the different types out there, and rarely play anything else anyway. But I love playing AoSes, and can totally come up with hero ideas and/or implement them. |
