Blood Elf Demon Hunter Icon

Updated. Second version.

This model was made by Mc !. Icon was not created so I had to create Icon for myself.
At first it was improvised border, and disabled border especially was quite unlike normal.
Thanks to the tool links by AnemicRoyalty, and a minor effect or two on the picture from irfanview, the icon is improved from the first showing. Also, a scorescreen icon has been added.

ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\
ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsDisabled\
UI\Glues\ScoreScreen\

It matches the following resource:

The icon quality is bad and is made from a screnshot and the borders are incorrect. This is unacceptable, as far as I know. Although not a lot of active mods these days.

i'm not a professional icon maker. i don't understand how to make it look more fantastic(warcraft 3 standard, if you need another choice of words). your use of the word unacceptable is flawed. there is no precursor to an icon for the model i made this for. if this were just an icon for an item or something like that, you'd have a lot more room to gripe.

what is unacceptable is the state of my map with masses of inappropriate icons.
if you want to teach or assist in teaching me to make better, more acceptable icons, go for it. but since this is the only icon for the hero model it was made for, it is better than nothing. and certainly better than using a regular bloodmage icon.

i'm going to continue to make appropriate icons, regardless of the quality. you can either waste time calling me a failure, or you can try to be helpful.

Look,I've been here for a while now. When I started,I created crappy stuff that I thought that was pretty cool, and I've been flamed, insulted and so on. I do indeed create my icons from screenshots,(although I still edit 'em so they look better) but I just don't submit them here.
what I'm trying to say is that you should keep working, posting your work here, until, after all the criticism, you'll end up making something worth a shit.Sure you will be angry sometimes bout the comments, but the feeling of being approved is worth it.

-Oh,and if you look at a regular icon, you'll see that there's always an iron border. You should bear that in mind.

Hey there, SanKakU

Don't feel bad about the comments Deolrin has made. He wasn't being rude, what he meant is that they are 'unacceptable' according to the rules o set forth in this site, for Icon submission. Like Mistertea said, we all start somewhere.. and we all have to learn to become better.

We are all here, to give out a hand and often speak the truth. I'll be glad to give you a hand and pointers as to how to make your own Icons look better. I'll teach you how to use Wc3 Icons and modifify them, or even how to take screenshots and make them look like Wc3 Icons.

I'll post examples, in a few minutes.

EDIT: I will actually pm you.

Generally speaking, icons made from a screenshot of someone else's work aren't sufficient to be approved as a stand alone resource.
If Mc ! doesn't mind (PM him about this), you should attach your icons in the model thread.

They also need appropriate borders, I'd recommend any of these tools:

Button Manager
wc3Borderizer
Icon Border Pack

From the Submissions rules:

Quote:
• The art must be at least 75% original work by yourself. This means freehand graphics, not copying/pasting, filters, or color manipulation.
• Icons must use the WC3 icon borders.

To be honest, they're quite blurry and have issues with lighting as well. The rules still apply for submissions, whether there's an existing icon or not.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. Indeed, what I mean is that they can not be accepted as a resource on WC3C at the moment. I'm pretty sure the only acceptable stand-alone icons are those that are freehanded(i.e: drawn by hand, usually with a tablet or mouse).

AnemicRoyalty, thanks for the links, man. So I checked out Button Manager and maybe I'm being fussy but the icons don'tlook exactly like war3 all the time, but close enough. it is acceptable, in all opinions? because i like the program and the borders are more well done than mine. a big problem i'm running into though is that the war3 borders are more fat than mine so i will need to redo some of my icons, including at least the top icons here, since too much of the icon is lost using the button manager.

deolrin, everyone else in this thread being constructive. only you aren't. :\

anyways, yes, i will update the original post after i've redone the icons. thanks everyone a bunch for your patience.

You could at least edit it a little bit instead of pasting the image. In the first icon you can hardly differentiate the head from the hair. Try to increase the contrast a bit with a few brushes. And the second one is just too dark.

And most importantly, you should always try to remove the polygon-ish look from the icon, try to round the shapes and tune up the colors to make them look more realistic and pretty.

I'm probably repeating what everyone said, but whatever, too lazy to read >.>

It's still insufficient for an approved resource, lacking freehand painting, definition and decent lighting.

However, making icons for the tons of models that don't have one is a good move. If you've got the time and energy, you could take it on as a project to make a big collection of screenshot icons for all the models on the site with missing icons. I'm sure there are a few in-game models that fit this category too. If you need something to reference, try the link in my signature to the Unit Wrap Compilation. Just start a new thread in the Skinning/Texturing forum if you're keen. You'd be doing a huge favour to the community :)
