Let's Research about Aloc

I think that if we combine stuff in a really weird way we can find different uses for Aloc

Aloc Itself makes the unit unselectable, untargetteable, and invulnerable
I guess there are different ways to separate a property from the other

Grater found that adding Aloc and then Chaos morphing makes an unit unselectable but targetteable and vulnerable. The problem is that you need a chaos ability for every possible unit type, I think that what happens is that the chaos transformation somehow resets the unit and removes everything except the unselectable flag. There should be a way to do that without chaos.

I found that Adding Aloc and removing Aloc makes the unit unselectable - untargettable but vulnerable

Extremly cool stuff... Keep this stuff up, Vex ;). *Wants to rate post*

Anyway, I didn't know you could actually make something untargetable and unselectable. Invulnerability is fairly easy since there's a skill for it ;).

Actually the really intresting thing about Aloc is that even though its unselectable and all that good stuff to us. The computer can still make use of it. For example make a map with a gold mine and a town hall preplaced. Give them both Aloc and give the Peasents that build Aloc. Yet they well all move build and mine.

Yeah, the thing is that computer doesn't need to click a unit to issue orders to it, you can issue orders with triggers to units with Aloc

You can only if you target a direct unit. Like either have it stored in a variable or have it selected. Thee Pick every unit functions don't work.

Also the cool thing about Aloc is that it actually doesn't make a unit invincible. Give it to a random unit and using triggers tell it to move towards enemy and the enemy will attack you.

1) It depends, if you make pick every unit in units of type / owned by player it works, it doesn't work with units in region

2) No, Aloc does make them invulnerable

Really i was almost sure that it didn't and that a computer would attack it regardless of aloc.

But i did this testing before Frozen throne though so a lot could have changed.

Yea i know that is what i was saying.. Its not invincible because Computer can target it. But the issue order can be fixed by putting the units in arrays the giving them the ability. That way you can call them from the array.

To remove all traces of Aloc hide then unhide the unit.

When your picking units in region it also doesn't pick hidden units in the region, altough the hidden units can still be accessed by "select units of type" or "owned by" etc.

I believe Aloc shares many properties with hide. (ie remove collision detection, removed from the map itself for the purposes of "select unit in region/range)

Also Aloc'd units can walk off the side of the map.

Edit: Just realised you dont even need to hide the Aloc'd unit first, just unhide it to remove Aloc. This proves there is an extremely close connection between Hide and Aloc.

Edit2: I'm going to speculate that the only difference between a hidden and an Aloc'd unit is that the Aloc unit will automatically move and aquire targets (a hidden unit can be made to manually move around and aquire targets) and the Aloc'd unit is still displayed.

Also, altough Aloc'd and Hidden units cannot be selected with "Pick every unit in region", they WILL trigger "unit enters region" events.

Before patch 1.13, Removing aloc didnt do anything EXCEPT if you hide and unhide the unit. After this, the unit was targetable only by trigger and by manualy making a selection group over the unit(clicking didnt work, you had to make a rectangle over it). I dont know if its still apply now. I doubt blizzard modified aloc in the patch.

Hmm, does this mean that giving a unit Aloc, then unhidingit, would possibly make it just invicable? or possibly just unselectble? very interesting indeed.

That is so weird since, there was no Aloc ability before Frozen throne

l]arkOne: I have 1.12 and had those results

There was one it just wasn't called ALoc back then.

Aloc is used by Locusts, hence the name of the ability. If there was an Aloc (possible with a different name) in RoC, then it is probably not used by the game, so it could be bugged. All leftovers are put in bliz's expansions.
