Heres a tutorial on importing models: http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Tu...=Import_Models As for a tutorial on creating them.. you'll have to learn to do that on your own. |

Hey.. #1, Sorry bout the font ;) ill make a mental note never to use it again. #2, that tutorial is great if you want to have a goblin praetorian, it means nothing for other models. I have found out on my own that you need the specific mpq adress for the dude you want to apply the model to except 4 the mdx which can remain wc3imported blah blah blah. Next you select the model file for the guy u want to apply in object man. restart we. then u place the dude. Except this "dude" is a green box. I have done nothing wrong based on my knowledge. The tutorial is actually pretty bad based on the fact that it does not give any explanation on how to import for other models, which, by the way DID work for me for only the gob preator. (oh btw this is the original poster's freind. I hbave the same problem) |

I have a tendency to dislike people with absolutely no intellect what-so-ever. Now you say that the tutorial helps you import the goblin, and nothing else. Your completely wrong in most every way. Let's go over this shall we? Here is information straight from the tutorial: 1. You first need to download a Model from this page. As an example we take the Goblin Blademaster Model from exN. (I think you saw this step and immediately assumed you HAD to use the goblin model to make this tutorial work. You can use ANY model for this one) 2. You have downloaded the zip archive on your harddrive and now need to extract all files: Right-Click the zip file and choose "Extract All" from the Menu. You alternatively can use WinRAR or WinZip to extract all files. After you extracted all file you should have the following: If you compare the paths of the files in the folder with the ones on the webpage, you notice they are alike: Attached Models: 2 Model 1: Goblins\Blademaster\BigScimitar.mdx Model 2: Goblins\Blademaster\GoblinCape.mdx Number of Skins: 7 Skin 1: Goblins\Blademaster\GoblinPraetorian.blp Skin 2: Textures\Roman1.blp Skin 3: Textures\Sparkle_Anim.blp Skin 4: Textures\Clouds32_anim.blp Skin 5: Textures\gutz.blp Skin 6: Goblins\Blademaster\BigScimitar.blp Skin 7: Goblins\Blademaster\GoblinCape.blp (NOTHING goblin specific here, they could also be: Wolves/Werewolf/Wolfclaw.mdx or WolfFur.mdx.. just cause it says goblin DOESNT mean its for goblins only.. that can be replaced with the name of any other model.) 3. Now you open your map in World Editor and go to the Import Manager (F12 key). There you import all files from the zip file. In our case six files: (once again, everywhere it says goblin can EASILY be replaced with another model name. nothing goblin specific here) 4. You propably noticed that the imported files all show a path like "war3mapImported\BugScimitar.blp". This is wrong and you need to adjust all paths. The main model file is the "GoblinPraetorian.mdx". This model dont need a specific path, so you can leave it the way it is now: "war3mapImported\GoblinPraetorian.mdx". The other five files you rename exactly like displayed on the website: To edit a path of an imported file you double click it and then check the "Use custom path" checkbox. Now enter the correct path. war3mapImported\BigScimitar.mdx --> Goblins\Blademaster\BigScimitar.mdx war3mapImported\GoblinCape.mdx --> Goblins\Blademaster\GoblinCape.mdx war3mapImported\GoblinPraetorian.blp --> Goblins\Blademaster\GoblinPraetorian.blp war3mapImported\BigScimitar.blp --> Goblins\Blademaster\BigScimitar.blp war3mapImported\GoblinCape.blp --> Goblins\Blademaster\GoblinCape.blp Now your import manager should look like this: (Okay, lets go back to Step 2, shall we? Look at the files and their paths. I told you that they could be under any filepath for any specific model. Now look at the picture in Step 3, no matter what model you upload, Goblin or not, under where it says Full Path, will have war3mapimported/(filename). This is NOT specific to the goblin, and WILL be that way no matter what file you upload. Now look at the first picture in Step 4. You will need to do this to all of your imported files, ESPECIALLY skins because the model uses the skins in a specific path, and that would be the path they were in when you first downloaded them, hence everything in Step 2. Now take a gander at the last picture in Step 4. You'll see that under Full Path, the file paths are exactly as they were in the folders and .zip file, this is NOT limited to Goblins, but all models. So just change it to the file paths used in the .zip file for any model you download.) 5. The World Editor wont recognize your model yet. You must save your map first and quit World Editor. Now start World Editor up again and load your map. (I don't see anything about goblins there... so that can't be limited to Goblins either.) 6. Now you can assign the goblin model to a unit in the object editor. (Gee, it says Goblin. Okay, all you have to do is click Import and click the actual model file that you imported, whether goblin or not.. the model you imported will be there.) 7. Have Fun! (Okay so I just through that in, but it was at the bottom of the tutorial. Once again, not limited to the goblins.) Yeah, you'll notice I'm a bit sarcastic about this, but the tutorial will work for ANY model, in the filepaths arent in the .zip file, there is usually a readme for the filepaths. And the actual model itself doesn't need a specific filepath at all, it can stay with the default. The actual reason for me posting this is that within the last week or so, I've seen SEVERAL people asking how to import models, and when either I or someone else leave a link for the tutorial, they also say that it only helps when importing the goblin, and no other models. You should now see this to be completely false. If you still think that this is only relevant with the model file included in the tutorial, then you must have just started modeling, or you are just becoming familiar with the WE, and need to become much more familiar, and read FAQs and Tutorials posted all around these forums before posting a problem that has been solved several times over. Topics where others have problems, and have also read the tutorial: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=59416 http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=59452 http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=59457 There are SEVERAL more out there if you do a search, these are just the very recent ones. I hope you can help them now, and I hoped I helped you. To the moderators: Sorry for the sarcasm. I've been senior moderator and Administrator at SEVERAL other large forums and I understand how it is when people post a problem before searching for an answer.. so sorry about that :D . I hope all of you learn that this tutorial is not goblin specific, and that the creator of the tutorial was only using it as an example, you should be able to learn from that. Oh, and thanks to Darky27 for the tutorial.. it helped a LOT! |
