What are you using to unwrap? I find LithUnWrap very helpful. When you do the unwrapping, you must save the UVmap and save the model again so it uses the wrap you just made the same way it was created. Then edit the UV map in photoshop or whatever and re-open the model, and apply the skin. There's tutorials everywhere for this. Try these: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=45930 http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthre...threadid=31353 http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthre...threadid=34180 http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=14049 If you still can't figure it out, tell me what programs your using and I'll explain in detail. |

3dsmax unwraps models, just that it exports as .uvw so i have to take a snapshot of it |

I use LithUnWrap to unwrap all of my models. Get LithUnWrap and do this: File -> Model -> Open Open your model. Select -> All Tools -> UV mapping. Now this is where you pick what type of UV map you want. Fool around with it a bit. Pick what kind you want and make sure your happy with it. File -> UVMap -> Save File -> Model -> Save You must resave the model, because once you set what type of UV map you want, that's what type the model will be configured to. Edit the UV map in any program how you want it. I prefer photoshop. Then open your modeling program, and load the edited UV map in and apply it to your entire model. This should help. Just a quick tutorial on unwrapping with LithUnWrap, which is extremely useful. LithUnWrap: http://files.seriouszone.com/downloa...a0cce9ee446ac9 Hope this helps. |

ok, testing, thx in advanced <rep given> EDIT: after that part where you save the unwrap, the file ends up to be a .uvw, that can't be used w/ a skinning program so how do you get it into a .tga file? |

In LithUnWrap, where you go to File - > UV Map - > Save, you can save the file as a .tga. Once you reopen the model in 3dsmax and import the skin to see if it works correctly, thats all you have to do. Convert your model to .mdx, and then take the UVmap you completed and saved into a .blp and import that. Don't try and do any UV exporting from 3dsmax. |

when i choose Tools> UVmap> planar, it just unwraps it so i have a front view and back where when i unwrapped it in 3dsmax, i had many different things everywhere so is it nessessary to do this step? |

If you want it to unwrap and divide it up in its groups, then do Tools -> UV map -> Box Make sure apply spacing and seperate by group are both checked. This works for some low poly models. You may have to use the box on the right, expand the groups box, and right click a group, go to select, and then do the UV mapping for it. If you do it this way, you may end up with more than one skin file, however. |

meh, so as long as i like the unwrap, i could totally ignore that step, cause in 3dsmax, i already unwrapped it to something like this: <its already a WIP, dont steal you losers...> |

Okay, seems like you got everything working fine. You were saying something like 3dsmax exporting to .uvw? Is the picture you uploaded a snapshot or is it the actual wrap? |

Bah i should write an unwrapping tutorial... I use 3ds max 4.2 and i unwrap just fine so here it is: There are several ways to unwrap but it looks like you are unwrapping samus so ill just explain that. You could use a program called ultimate unwrapper 3d $40 at http://www.unwrap3d.com Or: You apply a uvw unwrap modifier to your unit and click the plus button and use select faces. Select the faces you want to unwrap like an arm or a leg and click on planar map. Then click on edit. You should come up with a couple of selected verticies. Move them around and use the scale button to scale them down or up and keep doing this with different parts until you get your model completely unwrapped and seperated. Then u can just use print screen or use textporter (search on google its everywhere) and get the file exported then make your skin. --If you plan on being a long time modeler and plan on making lot more detailed units ultimate unwrapper 3d is the way to go if you have the money. Good Luck! :D |
