IMPORTANT NOTE: I'm posting the new features of this map here

Hello everybody:

this is the upgraded version of Naga Wars, a map that I posted some weeks ago.

Players: 2 to 4

Objective: You must defeat your opponents to achieve the victory, that's all.

Main Characteristics:
  • Now you play the NAGA Race.
  • Four custom naga Heroes.
    • Naga War Queen: Abilities: Fire trap, Watery minions, Weakness Aura and Murloc Slayer. Main Ability: Intelligence
    • Terror King: Abilities: Mortal Knife, Panic, Terror Aura and Eye of Destruction. Main Ability: Agility
    • Naga Enchantress: Abilities: Confusion, Soul Control, Dark Mana and Betrayal. Main Ability: Intelligence
    • Naga Imperial Warrior: Abilities: Crushing wave, Summon sea elemental, Frost Bolt, and Supreme Warrior. Main Ability: Strength
  • Every enemy killed by you will give devotion points. With them, you can have avaliability for buying units in the sargeras altars (but first you must slay the guardians near to those altar).
  • Multiboard to track your buildings, kills and devotion points.
  • Naga race has Upgrades for Temple of Tides and Tidal Guardians, also can reseach buildings upgrades.

Edit (May 17th 2006): Damn!, by accident I uploaded a wrong version of my map, now this is the right version. Sorry for any incovinience.

Edit (May 14th 2006): AT LAST!!! Terror King has new abilities, now the circle is complete and the map is ready for playing

Edit (May 13th 2006): I've added more customization to the mapand fixed some AI issues.

Edit (May 11th 2006): I'm still working with the Terror King Abilities (2 of 4 abilities now working), so I decided to upload an update for my map just for testing. I'll aprecciate your feedback.

Edit (May 1st 2006): Other bugs fixed, Now I'm stuck with the new Terror King abilities. I appreciate some ideas.

Edit (April 30th 2006): I've updated the map in order to show the new terrain. ATM I have some problem with a new Naga Enchantress Ability Just look at it, and give me suggestions please. New Screenshots HERE

  • More armor to giant sea, so they are harder to kill
  • Naga trained by Sargeras Altar don't get trapped by doodads (well, at least when I test this issue, I don't have any problem ).

Ah playing as the naga race will be a nice change. And i like the idea of showing devotion to the godess to get more units. I hope these are special units?

Testing it right away!

Well, I put in the Sargeras altar two new units and other known amphibious units (murgul snarecaster, sea monsters and my favourite, Naga royal guard ). I putted devotion points in this map in order to "quantify" not only the number of kills, but the dificulty level of the killed units too, in example, killing a unit with 200 hitpoints and 0 armor gives less points than killing a 1350 HP with 11 armor.

There was no units to buy at the alter even though I had 3000+ points.
Crushing Wave has no cooldown
Some skills could be gotten at the wrong levels.
The 'Tim is getting attacked!' message appears even when I engaged creeps while attacking in other regions.

All in all the map simply is not fun still. Sorry, I do not approve.

I wasn't really fond of it. The whole AI idea ruins it. I'd like it better if it were players vs AI. Melee should be kept melee. This is just naga all over the place, computer naga attacks, player naga attacks, naga naga naga.

Plus, the bugs/inconveniences I encountered: Tidal towers can get stunned[honestly, what the?] and there are too few buildings and units for my taste[it really sucks when you cut all the nearby trees and can't build a lumber mill type of structure].

I don't approve. I'm not a fan of melee maps, and this isn't any better than a melee map, IMO. If anything, having the computer attack you when you attack others really ruins it for me.

Well.... probably you can't get any unit at the Sargeras Altar because your hero wasn't very closed to the altar (altar changed the animation when you was near to it???). something that can be fixed.

Crushing wave.... with no cooldown??? I didn't get noticed!!! I'll fix that.

About the skills.... could you be more specific? I'm afraid that I don't understand.

About 'Tim is getting attacked!', I think that message could be confusing, it could be removed.

The idea with the Naga kingdom is giving some challengeto the game, and it is the reason for the random attacks. it puts some dificculty and action in my opinion.

mmmm.... about the naga everywhere... the map is called NAGA WARS, so I think that it must be Naga vs Naga war. if you have some suggestions, I'd appreciate that.

Do you know that Ruins of relics works as a drop of lumber???

Omg i played a one-hour game before realizing i was playing the old version. Damned... Ill try again later, now i dont have more time.

Oh well shit happens. I was just about to post a huge review about how the map hadnt changed, when i realized it was the same version :P

Haha seriously, the only thing that seperates this map name and description from the old one is a small text in the bottom of the description saying "Melee edition". You should consider adding a version number to the maps ^^

Testing it now, ill post a review in the hour.

Tested, and...

* I didn't get a victory message when i killed the last player? Am i supposed to play a single player game versus the remaining computer units to win? In that case, i think its a very bad idea. Fighting computers and players works, but only computers is plain boring imo.

* You did not sort the units into different tiers? I could build naga myrmidons and sirens on tier 1. The only reason to increase the tier was to get a second hero and some upgrades. I really think tier 1 should be only one or two weak units, and myrmidons and cyclone tier 3.

* It is a custom map, yes. But allmost everything is created by blizzard; the races, the abilities, the units... The only really custom thing is the terrain and thats not very high quality.

* The terrain is not that good. The trees are clumped together with canopy trees which mess up pathing and look ugly, and youve also placed trees on sand. It would look better if the tiles changed as the terrain turned into a forest.

* The player vs computer thing just doesnt work. The basics of melee games is the strategy; you try to defeat the other players. In this map you kill creeps for the first 30 min (theres no way to attack the enemy without using zeppelins, and zeppelins are hard to use and give you a great disadvantage because you cannot escape without a TP). Then you have a strong enough army to kill even stronger creeps (the naga). I didn't even do this now, because in the earlier versions i allways lost my entire army because i tried to kill those. So i just massed myrmidons and sirens (and got a few hotkeys filled with parasites, because as soon as i met a enemy army they all got "parasited" because it cost basically no mana and had no cooldown) and dropped my army on the enemys capital base and "won" (i didnt get a victory message as stated earlier, even though i was the "last one to survive" as you said in the beginning).

Sorry this is still not getting my approval.

Thanks for your comments Gadden, now I can get a general idea about the changes that I have to do.
  • Naga Kingdom (brown player) definitely is the bad boy in the movie. The reason for adding this computer player was to put challenging to the game, but you considered something boring, and sometimes, impossible to defeat. Well, I'm going to remove that player.
  • With that modification, I think that you will have a Victory message (Actually I didn't have any problem, when I win, I get the Victory Dialog box). I think that is just a bug, I'll test more my map.
  • About the tiers.... you are completely right, and don't worry, it has been fixed but not posted in the thread ATM. I'll post a message when I do the update (I really don't know why I forgot using tiers with the units)
  • About the custom units.... do you want units with custom spells, abilities, models, etc.?? well, abilities and upgrades no problem, spells... a little more complicated for me, and models... I'll only put custom models in heroes in order to reduce the possibility of lagging (a suggestion from TAUR).
  • About the terrain... I removed some canopy trees, but I left anothers because I feel that the normal tree in the sunken ruin tileset gives the impression of being excessively separated from another tree. OK, I'll fix that

By the way, I have an idea, what about letting only two heroes to be trained, and, depending of the hero trained, you can make custom upgrades at your units, this in order to make the Nagas more variate. I accept sugesstions.
