Making doodads float

ok i have done it before but forgot how, there is soming like hold down alt and the item will raise off the ground?

please tell me what it is as it is really holding me back making my map.

hmm, thought something like this might would appear at a time, and so it did..
well these kind a things appears to be easily forgotten by some people, though the tutorial was mainly for beginners but seems useful as a reminder too

Naturally, the thread that's stickied at the top of this forum might also have the information, along with several other useful things to try out.
