Hello I'm just getting back into mapping after a bit of a break, and want to set up the editor on my mac, with the various jass helper programs. I realize most people use windows and the programs are designed with that in mind, but are there any mac mappers out there? Whats the latest software for mac? Windows? Edit: What do you know, there seems to be a bit of a thread on this! Time for some reading. |

Getting a proper Mac version of vJass would be really cool. it'd probably inspire me to learn JASS 'cause switching to windows is annoying. Also, congrats to Vexorian if he reads this, because I'm sick of people saying "Run bootcamp" or "Run VMware/parallels" because App X or App Y aren't out for Mac. Anyways, the situation for mapping on OS X is this: Don't use Leopard for WC3 map editing. There are several bugs which may affect you. There is a forum on battle.net where some users have asked for WE to be updated so that it works better. I mentioned some of these bugs here. If you don't have Tiger at hand i recommend being careful when creating triggers and planning your maps so that you don't have to create custom skins. If you want some useful tools for Mac, check these out: http://www.wc3campaigns.net/showthre...=Mac+Art+Tools For 3D modeling you can use Maya or 3DS, I'm sure the plugins work on Mac. Hope that helps you. |

Unfortunately, the most of the latest and greatest tools (eg: NewgenJass, which is a requirement for a lot of systems now), do not work on mac natively. Not a lot you can do until: A: Blizzard makes WE better on macs. (ha, as if.) B: Vex, Pitzer, or Pipe... or anyone else... figures out a way to get them to work on macs. You can try non-native methods, but ya know. Those can be stupid. Good luck mapping though. |
