Hi, I'm new here, and well, this seems to be a really good community :) I want to learn more about Map Making and well, I'm interested in Tower Defense maps, but the problem is that I can't find a complete tutorial for this. I searched in the forum and find things like this: http://world-editor-tutorials.thehel...t/towerdef.php or even the TD basics tutorial from wc3campaigns, but I really can't understand how to make TDs with them, I'm looking for something more specific, that explains how to make everything, like creating creeps/towers/builders and what makes them be what they are (I mean, what makes a tower stay still and attack, or a builder to "fly" and don't get damage, etc.) because nobody explains all, from basics to advanced things. I found too this topic where this question was made and I don't want to bother: http://www.wc3campaigns.net/showthread.php?t=65170 but unfortunately that guide no longer exists, I've gone to that websites and even looked the forum but I can't find something like I need, so I want to know if anyone knows of something more specific and step by step if it's possible. Anyway, thanks in advance and sorry I this topic is annoying P.S. Sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understand |

There is generaly no step-by-step instructions to make maps out there because: 1) every map is different, you can't have one tutorial that in detail explains how to make any map and 2) it would be too damn long to write! My advice: fiddle with the editor until you get a general feeling for where things are and what they do. What you're asking for are the most basic things, something anyone could figure out in five minutes just by looking around the object editor a bit. Buildings stay in place because they have 0 movement speed and their "stats - is a building" property set to true. Workers can be made to fly simply by setting their their movement type to flying (though, I must say, that looks terribbly ugly), and they are made invulnerable with a special passive ability that's even named "invulnerable". |

Indeed...you shouldn't be trying to start with something huge (or a complete project, doesn't have to be huge) if you do not know the basics. Just do whatever you can seem to do in the WE first- if you screw something up, just make a new map! Learning the basics is probably easier to do by yourself then looking for a tutorial for the simplest of things IMO. |

I'll answer the two questions you did post: Tower staying still: They're buildings... buildings don't move... Builder that flies and takes no damage: Make your builder. Give him the ability "Invulnerable (Neutral)". Modify these fields:
Oh, and these are true basic questions for a TD. I was surprised you had to ask how towers stay still, considering they're buildings. But anyways, your best bet is to fiddle around with things and ask questions when problems arise. That's the best way to learn. |

that where just examples for unexplaned things in tutorials or guides, but well, no problem :) I've been looking for something like that and after some (a lot) of hours I've found a guide in another forum that explains a little more, starting from the beginning, and I'm working on a TD now and understanding a lot of things :) it's pretty similar to the scripting and events in programs like RPG maker, so it's easy to start with something like the guide I've found in thehelper.net forum, it's not complete but it's the best I have found, I'll keep looking for (I don't post the exact URL because I don't know if I can without breaking some specific rule of this forum) Thanks to everyone for your help :D |
